What happens if a participant on Scout mentions thoughts of self-hate, self-harm, or suicidality?
Scout follows standard protocols for such situations with an escalation pathway that directs those in need of immediate support to the best resources available to them. During Scout guide hours (M-F 9am-5pm PST), participants will be directed to call 988 if in immediate danger, reach out to their provider, their caregiver, and/or the National Suicide Hotline. After-hours, participants receive an automated response directing them to follow the recommendations above. Scout guides always follow up with the participants to make sure they’ve received the support they needed.
